Crow Cabinet
mahogany, pine, maple, ash, cedar; 23 x 10 x 76 - ©1993
A Story cabinet. For me it feels very
autobiographic, a time when something was
released and changed in my life. The crow
represents a part of the psyche that when it's
time is right takes flight without warning, and
yet here I first greet the idea without knowing
what it is and then embrace and offer it freedom
and finally wave at it leaving. The mahogany
case is dovetailed like a big box and the upper
section is fastened with wooden nails. The
drawer has fine hand cut dovetails and contains
a crow feather. The stand is of fir and has been
mortise and tenoned, and colored with a dark
green water based dye.
